Green shoots
GalerĂa Maior, Palma, 2013
Alluding to the devastating effects of the downturn and the government’s attempts to appease the people, the centre space of the gallery was occupied by a sculpture made in Tyvec paper, consisting of the characters in three dimensions of the word “Despidos” (dismissal). Two groups of drawings from the series Women Are Like Teabags… and the series Diary of Cutbacks occupied the sidewalls, with the particularity that the drawings in one of them could be exchanged by the spectator for one kilo of low-value coins (1, 2 or 5 cents), thus making it possible to purchase a drawing far below its market value yet demanding the effort of gathering one kilo of small change. At the end of the room, there was a scale to weigh the coins. Once the transaction was made, they were deposited under the exchanged drawing.
On the opposite wall, a minimal poem accompanied the continuous line of the drawings.
