Little Theatre of Dérives
GalerĂa Gingko, Madrid, 1994
This a series of black and white photographs made in 1994 thanks to an initiative from GalerĂa Gingko in collaboration with Manuel Blanco. Reminiscent in ways of tableaux vivants, the series shows individuals or groups of characters, resulting from those moments when mental associations or perceptual “slips” generate new entities. These “combined characters” who are not too far from prostheses ignore gender boundaries and cut across the most varied realms. They are ultimately blocks of becoming.
(The series was expanded in later years)
These are some examples:
“Long-legs and long-arms go fishing together”
“She lives in the dress she is making”
“The bread-girls”
“The candle-bracelets”
“The jewel-animals”
“The storm–dog”
