Night, They Said

Caixa de Pensions Foundation, Sala Montcada, Barcelona, 1987.

White marble, blocks of dry ice (carbonic anhydride) and a catwalk. This work is based on a linguistic fact: the phonetic closeness of the words “eight” and “night” in all Indo-European languages. The blocks of white marbles and the blocks of dry ice (carbonic anhydride) are juxtaposed in such a way that as the dry ice begins to vanish an 8-shape is gradually revealed. The work alludes to the emergence of the figure of negation and the evolution of consciousness, which very often only leaves a trace in language.
